Kamala Harris will have one less opponent for the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination. Andrew Cuomo just blew up. The Department of Justice is investigating Cuomo’s COVID-19 task force for purposeful manipulation of the number of deaths in nursing homes. Cuomo has been lobbying state legislators to fend off criticism of his role. He is also accused of threatening a state assemblyman.

Given Cuomo’s Titanic-sized ego and the glee with which he held daily briefings on the pandemic last year, his fall will be a hard one. The worst-case scenario is that he will be forced to resign. A reasonable, high-probability outcome is that his dream of the presidency is dead.

In addition to VP Harris, Cuomo’s fall helps President Biden. Given Cuomo’s age, 2024 may be his last real chance to run for the White House. The loudest voice in the party may soon be silenced.
