Speaker Pelosi, tear down that wall! Calls are increasing to remove the prison-style wall built around the Capitol, Library of Congress, and Supreme Court after the Trump Insurrection. The continued need for the fence is now being discussed. While another assault on the Capitol remains possible, experts suggest that better intelligence and the planned increase in the Capitol Police force can provide the security needed.

The fence has made Capitol Hill an unwelcome destination. It not only is a reminder of the nightmare of the January 6, it is inconsistent with promoting democracy. How healthy can a democracy be if elected representatives need the National Guard and fences topped with barbed wires to meet as a legislature?

The wall must come down, sooner rather than later. With Trump now safely focusing on his short game at Mar-a-Lago, the wall is no longer needed.
