Thank you for your comment. You are right that a major part of the college cost problem is declining state support for public colleges. I believe the problem includes both Democratic and Republican led states. I also note that independent college costs have frequently risen faster than public schools.

I would welcome states resuming responsibility for public institutions. Unfortunately, I don't see any sign of that happening.
