Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie may not be the next president of the United States but gets the gold medal for the best description of Donald Trump. Ever.
In his June 6 speech announcing his candidacy for the Republican 2024 nomination, Christie did not pull back punches in describing Trump:
A lonely, self-consumed, self-serving mirror hog.
Lest there be any confusion about whom he was talking about Governor Christie went on to say:
The person I am talking about, who is obsessed with the mirror, who never admits a mistake, who never admits a fault, who always finds someone else and something else to blame for whatever goes wrong — but finds every reason to take credit for anything that goes right — is Donald Trump.
There are, of course, more nasty things to say about the defeated ex-president. It’s likely we will hear many of them in the coming weeks and months. I look forward to it, not because political name-calling is good (it isn’t) but because Christie may be the only 2024 candidate from either party to get to Trump.
Inside the bluster, nastiness, racism, greed, and a lot else in Trump, is a bully. And sometimes an Old Testament approach is called for.
How did Trump respond to Christie?
Trump is the father of a well-known big game hunter, his namesake, Donald J. Trump, Jr. In his response to Christie, Trump senior attempted to kill two birds with one stone:
