How will history treat Trump in twenty years?

The story of Donald Trump is still being written. It already includes one chaotic four-year term in the White House, with the possibility of two. It includes January 6, 2021, and Trump’s 2017 tax cut. It includes praise for white nationalists and paying “hush money” to Stormy Daniels. It also includes criminal trials and could include jail time.

The Trump story will be interesting, if nothing else. Future generations may have difficulty believing that everything said about Trump happened.

America has a tradition of honoring its former presidents. Richard Nixon has his presidential library in Yorba Linda, California, and two elementary schools, one in Hiawatha, Iowa, and one in Landing, New Jersey. Little else is named for Nixon.

Nixon’s presidency ended with Watergate and his resignation. After leaving office, Nixon lived another 20 years, spending much of the time rehabilitating his legacy. In part, he succeeded by writing nine books after he left office. Today, Nixon is remembered for opening dialog with China and passing the Clean Air and Occupational Safety and Health Acts.

Regardless of the 2024 election outcome, Donald Trump will not have 20 years to rehabilitate his image. He will be…
